Ahead of the Catford Vegan Festival this Sunday (July 14th), we have compiled a list of the top 5 vegan food spots in Catford. We know that once you’ve whet your appetites with the wide range of delicious options at the festival, naturally, you’ll want more. Fortunately, Catford is home to a selection of plant-based gems. Feel free to comment below and share some of your favourites!
1. Joy’s Health Sanctuary.
Joy’s Health Sanctuary, based in Catford shopping centre, is our go-to for fresh juices, health foods, plant-based meals and professional nutritional advice. The business is run by Joy and her two daughters, Katrina and Karlene. Order lunch from the daily menu and take a seat. If you’re on-the-go, treat yourself to a slice of vegan cake or a vegetable patty. Read more about Joy’s story in our interview here.
Fourteen87 is a restaurant and cocktail bar on Catford Broadway. Chef Dom Taylor has recently come on board to re-launch the kitchen with a brand new menu, from July 9th. “As a Chef, it’s very important to me to design a menu and create a space where all people are thought about and considered. I think in today’s climate there are a range of lifestyles and dietary requirements that need to be held into account. I hope with this menu I have hit that spot,” he explains.
If Jackfruit Tempura, Plantain & Smoked Aubergine Fritters with a side of Vegan Mac & Cheese doesn’t sound tantalising enough, enjoy 50% off all mains for the first two weeks. GO GO GO!
3. Good Hope Cafe, Hither Green.
This beautiful cafe, less than a 10-minute walk from Mountsfield park, offers a selection of homemade vegan dishes, juices, hot drinks and the best R&B playlist. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is both inviting and friendly. Whether you’re looking for a space to work from, have lunch or meet with friends, this community-focused and intergenerational cafe is the perfect place. Side note: it’s currently closed for construction works and will reopen on July 15th!
4. The Factory.
Arguably the best Falafel in Catford! The Factory is a Restaurant, Bar and Grill serving Gourmet Burgers, Mediterranean Charcoal Grill, Meze, Salads and More! While it isn’t a vegan restaurant, it does offer a few plant-based options. Our favourite is the Falafel special, served with freshly made hummus, seasoned chips and a salad. The portion size is generous and can be ordered to eat in or takeaway via Deliveroo and UberEats.
The most recent opening in Catford Town Centre is Benhue; a coffee shop and workspace serving homemade food. The menu has been curated into daily lunch specials and quick bites available at the counter. On Monday’s you can have a ‘Toasted Ackee and Spinach Ciabatta’ or ‘Curried Mushroom with Steamed Rice’ on a Thursday.
“Our mission is to inspire and include each and every guest who visits us for coffee, food or a place to work. We're two young people who've been in Catford for 30 years giving it our best shot at providing what we wished existed when we were growing up,” an Instagram message from the owners.
This is the beginning of an exciting time for Catford Town Centre. The more people involved, the better the needs of the whole community will be reflected.
